 AUDIOLOGY TEACHING 2004

A collection of photographs from teaching

Teaching in the UWA Master of Clinical Audiology includes lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes, clinical placements, and self-paced work, based on problem solving. The photographs opposite illlustrate one type of class in which students discuss testing of children, role play, and gain experience in paediatric test techniques before using them in a clinical situation. In such classes, students discuss the reasons for different tests, the advantage of one test over another, the theory and practicalities of the tests, and the way results can be presented to parents and other professionals. The photographs from left to rignt and top to bottom include: (a) a class discussing paediatric testing and presentation of results to parents and allied professionals (GPs, nurses, speech therapists etc.); (b) Clinical co-ordinator Peta Monley leads the class discussion on report writing and paediatric testing; (c) Sandy Langille (WA), Nicola Linton (SthAfrica) and Philippa Hatch (WA) role play the Co-op Test technique; (d) Keith Scott (NT), Sandy Langille (WA), Nicola Linton (SthAfrica) and Philippa Hatch (WA) learn the Co-Op Test while Peta Monley and Rebecca Jackson look on; (e) Mike Tan and Karen Parfitt look on as the others role play paediatric tests; (f) Dr. Howard Walmsley and Sarah Parker take a break during a long class; (f) more role playing of the Kendall Toy Test; (g) Raquel Fernandez (Western Australia), Rino Terada (Japan) and Fred Bienvenu (Victoria) look on; (g) Raquel, Mike and Rino deep in thought (?); (h) Keith, Sandy and Nicola relish being centre of attention (!); (i) Fred Bienvenu (Victoria), Rebecca Jackson (WA), Dr. Howard Walmsley (Qld), Sandy Veling (WA) and Sarah Parker (WA) are luke warm about being photographed. Brenden van Fleet appears on the far right of the top group shot, while Alicia Hardwick escapes photography entirely (except for the top of her head) by burying her face in a book in an attempt to appear studious. No-one is convinced!
