SURABAYA VISIT NOVEMBER 2007

In November 2007 two of UWA's MClinAud students (Ha Nguy and Dilani Wijeratne) travelled to Surabaya Indonesia to visit hearing facilities in the region. The trip was organized in association with Dame Patricia O'Sullivan, Teacher of the Deaf Mary Kormendy, and Audiologist Ian Henderson. Over ten days they were treated to the wonderful hospitality of Ibu Sita Nasution and her family in Surabaya. Each day, Ha and Dilani travelled to different facilities, learning of the local initiatives in hearing health care, and on occasions assisting with the testing of local people. Institutions and facilities visited included Karya Mulia School for Deaf Children (KMSDC; guided for many years by Ibu Haryono and her late husband, Professor Haryono), a local Community Outreach Clinic (part of the Dr. Soetomo Hospital, with ENT Dr. Nyilo Purnami), Mojokerto township about 2 hours outside Surabaya to visit two Deaf Schools, and the Yayasan Aurica auditory-verbal school run by Sri Gutomo and his wife Sinta. As evident from the many beautiful photographs on this webpage, it was not all work during their stay, and the group visited many beautiful local sites, including Mt. Bromo (to visit an active volcano),
