Basic Clinical Audiology 512

This unit covers the theoretical and practical aspects of basic diagnostic audiological testing of children and adults, the critical and analytical thinking used to select tests and specific test materials, and current literature and research. Topics covered also include history taking (paediatric and adult), otoscopy, tuning fork tests, pure tone air and bone conduction testing, sound field testing, masking, speech reception thresholds (paediatric and adult), acoustic impedance and reflex testing, site of lesion testing (SISI, tone decay, Bekesy audiometry, Stenger testing etc.), imaging technology, literature searches and critical appraisal, critical thinking, basic statistics and experimental design.
Lectures and Labs: Equivalent of 1 Lecture plus 3 hours of lab class per week in first semester. 12 points over the full year Pre-requisites: none, but pre-reading assumed. Unit co-ordinator: Dr. R. Patuzzi |
